Dear Senator McKissick, Representative Hall, and Governor McCrory:
I am writing to express my great disappointment and concern for NC House Bill 2 that passed yesterday. This bill does not agree with the federal Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and the precedence set by other cases that have helped the Transgender community try to have some basic human rights. I specialize in working with Transgender patients and am one of the very few physicians in our state and the south that helps the Transgender community. My patients are bullied and harassed all the time. They are completely misunderstood and erroneously considered to be mentally ill on account of their goal to be true to themselves. Reducing their protection by local governments from discrimination is going to make them even more vulnerable to harassment and violence.
I strongly urge you to repeal this law, so that the LGBTQI community can live safely with civil rights protections.
Sincerely,
Keelee J. MacPhee
